Sri Marimallappa was very much impressed by the service, sacrifice and generosity of the Maharaja for his subjects. He having no children of his own, decided to establish an educational institution in the city of Mysore, as suggested by Sri Rangacharulu who was the controller of the palace at that time. He collected Rs. 50,000/- for this purpose. But, at the same time, he fell seriously ill. He then got a will written on his death-bed and saw to it that his intention of starting an educational institution was included in it. But some vested interest got the will so written that his entire property was going to be used on building a temple. When he heard this on his death-bed, he became furious. He got the will changed according to his original intention. He met the famous English Architect Mr. Standish Lea and got the work for constructing a suitable building underway. He breathed his last in 1872 after being satisfied that his ambition was going to become a reality. While the construction of the building was going on, there arose the problem of shortage of money. Smt. Mallamma, wife of Sri Gurikar Marimallappa, came forward to meet the entire expenditure by selling all her jewellery. Thus, because of the generosity of both the husband and wife, a fine educational institution grew into many and they continue serving the cause of education in a befitting manner.
